About Awurama Agyapong

Awura-Ama Agyapong, also known in the local performing circuit as Rama Blak is a Ghanaian singer/songwriter and a young ethnomusicologist. Awura-Ama launched onto the music scene by performing with the UG Highlife Ensemble of the Department of Music.

Subsequently, she worked with various bands in Accra from 2018/2019, coinciding with the release of her single, “Anansesem.”
Rama currently leads her own band, the ‘Vibe Tribe’, which showcases their talent on various platforms. She is committed to creating her distinct style by merging indigenous and contemporary sounds. Rama is currently a PhD student at the university of Ghana, Department of music, furthering her research interests in ethnomusicology. She has collaborated with respected artists such as Agya Osei Korankye, the Legon Palmwine band, Atongo Zimba, Nkyinkyim Band, Playing for Change Foundation, and others on diverse projects and her original compositions. She released “Becoming Rama Blak (The discography)” in August 2024 to collate and disseminate all the songs she has released since 2017/2018.
She is currently launching her Album Dubbed “Odoyewu”.

Awurama grew up as a promising singer, writing songs, poems and short stories. She continued to polish her music career in the University of Ghana, Legon, where she acquired a Degree in Music and Theatre Arts after completing Senior High School at Aggrey Memorial SHS. (Cape Coast). She also recently completed her masters’ degree in Ethnomusicology at the University of Ghana and currently a graduate assistant. 
 
Awurama finds inspiration anywhere in her environment and have performed on various television and radio shows. She also performs with renowned musicians such as Atongo Zimba on a featured song(Dokono ni meko) watch here, Osei Korankye featured on Ghana Montie song watch here among others. Working with these musicians of such standards has influenced her creative style and process. 
 
Some of her writings are Gone are the days , The farmer, My Brown shoes, Tales of my mind, … Awurama performs solo or with her band as well as other cover bands. She is motivated and influenced by her culture, and a wide range of musical styles around the world.
